Three At-Home Tips to Keep You Looking Fresh this Spring

With spring just around the corner, there’s no better time than the present to start prepping your skin for the impending (and highly welcomed) warmer temps that lie ahead. As seasons change it is recommended that your skin care regimen be adjusted to match the changing weather. Here are three simple tips to help you get your skin ready for sunny spring:

Start Scrubbing – Snow, wind and other winter weather can cause season-long buildup on the skin. Gentle at-home exfoliation will help get rid of dead, winter skin and unblock pores to keep the skin smooth and hydrated. Avoid harsh scrubs that may irritate the skin and remember that over-exfoliation can lead to skin sensitivities, so make sure you talk to your aesthetician about how often they recommend using exfoliating products at home based on your skin type and condition.

Lay Off the Heavy Moisturizers – During the cold, winter months we need thick creams and lotions to protect our skin from the harsh elements. Come spring, it’s time to swap out the heavy-duty formulas for lighter, oil-free moisturizing products. Just because warmer weather is here, that doesn’t mean you can skip moisturizer. Whatever your skin type and no matter how hot it gets, you still need a good daily facial moisturizer in the warmer weather to keep your skin hydrated and balanced. It’s just a matter of switching out your heavy winter products for something more lightweight.

Protect Yourself from the Sun – After months spent bundled up in heavy coats and hats, slathering on sun protection is a must once temps start to rise. Springtime is actually a high-risk time for sunburns and sun damage. Although the springtime weather is warmer, it’s mild enough that you might not feel how strong the sun is. Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun can be extremely harmful to your skin, especially skin that is freshly exfoliated. Apply sunscreen daily and reapply it more than once per day if needed.
